এক সিজদার অলৌকিক ঘটনা
” আমাদের এখানে অনেকদিন যাবত বৃষ্টি হয়নি, যদি আপনার রব্ব বৃষ্টি বর্ষন করেন তাহলে আমরা সম্মলিত ভাবে ঈমান আনবো”
একবার কুয়েতের খ্যাতনামা দাঈ ও মানবতাবাদী শাইখ আবদুর রহমান আস-সুমাইত (রহ.) খবর পেলেন যে আফ্রিকার এক প্রত্যন্ত অঞ্চলে এমন একটি বস্তি আছে—যেখানে এখনো ইসলামের আলো পৌঁছায়নি। তাঁর অন্তরে দায়িত্ববোধ ও দরদ জাগ্রত হলো, এবং তিনি সঙ্গে সঙ্গে সিদ্ধান্ত নিলেন—যে কিছুই হোক সেখানে যেতে হবে।
সহচররা উদ্বিগ্ন হয়ে তাঁকে থামাতে চাইল।
তারা বলল:
“শাইখ! আপনি যেতে পারবেন না। আমাদের আর সেই বস্তির মাঝখানে একটি নদী আছে, যা ভরা আছে ভয়ংকর কুমিরে।”
শাইখ সম্পূর্ণ শান্তভাবে বললেন:
“আমাকে সেখানে নিয়ে চলো… দায়িত্ব আমার।”
ফলে তাঁরা নৌকায় উঠলেন। নদীর পানি উত্তাল, চারদিকে মাথা উঁচু করে কুমিরগুলো তাকিয়ে আছে। তবুও নৌকা আল্লাহর রহমতে এগিয়ে গেল এবং তাঁরা নিরাপদে নদী পার হলেন।
বসতিতে পৌঁছাতেই লোকেরা বিস্ময়ে তাকিয়ে রইল। তারা জিজ্ঞেস করল:
“আপনারা এখানে কীভাবে এলেন?”
সহচররা বলল:
“আল্লাহ আমাদের রক্ষা করেছেন, কারণ আমরা তাঁর দীন-এর বার্তা নিয়ে এসেছি।”
তারপর শাইখ সুমাইত (রহ.) অত্যন্ত ভালোবাসা, সরলতা ও কোমল ভঙ্গিতে ইসলামের মৌলিক বিশ্বাস ও শিক্ষাগুলো বুঝিয়ে দিলেন। কথা শেষ হতেই বস্তির প্রধান বলল:
“আমাদের একটি শর্ত আছে… যদি তা পূরণ করেন, আমরা সবাই ইসলাম গ্রহণ করব।”
শাইখ মুচকি হেসে জিজ্ঞেস করলেন:
“শর্তটা কী?”
বস্তির প্রধান দুঃখভরা কণ্ঠে বলল:
“আমাদের এখানে বহু বছর ধরে বৃষ্টি হয়নি। আপনি আপনার রবের কাছে দোয়া করুন—যেন বৃষ্টি নেমে আসে।”
শাইখ সঙ্গে সঙ্গে বললেন:
“ঠিক আছে… তবে আগে পুরো বস্তির মানুষকে একত্র করো।”
যখন সবাই এক মাঠে জড়ো হলো, শাইখ ওযু করলেন, নামাজে দাঁড়ালেন। তাঁর রুকু-সিজদার সৌন্দর্যে চারপাশে নেমে এলো এক গভীর শান্তি। তিনি লম্বা সিজদায় যান। সেই সিজদায় তাঁর চোখ বেয়ে অশ্রু ঝরছিল, আর ঠোঁটে বারবার উচ্চারিত হচ্ছিল:
“হে আল্লাহ… তোমার দীনকে আবদুর রহমানের গুনাহের কারণে কখনো অসম্মানিত কোরো না।”
তিনি দীর্ঘক্ষণ ভক্তি ও কান্নার সঙ্গে দোয়া করতে থাকলেন। হঠাৎ আকাশে বজ্রধ্বনি শোনা গেল। সিজদা থেকে মাথা উঠিয়ে তাকাতেই দেখা গেল—আকাশজোড়া মেঘ, আর মোটা মোটা বৃষ্টির ফোঁটা ঝরছে!
বসতির মানুষ এই দৃশ্য দেখে আবেগে চিৎকার করে উঠল:
“আমরা সাক্ষ্য দিচ্ছি—আল্লাহ ছাড়া কোনো উপাস্য নেই, এবং মুহাম্মদ মুস্তফা ﷺ আল্লাহর শেষ রাসুল!”
শাইখ সুমাইত (রহ.)-এর চোখ ভিজে গেল। তিনি আল্লাহর শোকর আদায় করলেন। আর এভাবেই পুরো বস্তি দৃঢ় বিশ্বাস ও স্বতঃস্ফূর্ততার সঙ্গে ইসলাম গ্রহণ করল।
কে ছিলেন শাইখ আবদুর রহমান আস-সুমাইত (রহ.)?
পেশায় ছিলেন একজন মেডিকেল ডাক্তার (Internal Medicine ও Gastroenterology বিশেষজ্ঞ)।
ব্রিটেনের University of Liverpool এবং কানাডার McGill University থেকে উচ্চতর শিক্ষা লাভ করেন।
কিন্তু তাঁর জীবন উৎসর্গিত ছিল মানবসেবা ও আল্লাহর দীন প্রচারে।
তিনি তাঁর স্ত্রীকে নিয়ে ২৯ বছর আফ্রিকা মরুভূমি ও বস্তি-বাংলো ঘুরে বেড়িয়েছেন।
তাঁর মাধ্যমে আনুমানিক ১ কোটি ১০ লক্ষ মানুষ ইসলাম গ্রহণ করেছে—এ সংখ্যাটি আধুনিক ইতিহাসে একক কোনো ব্যক্তির মাধ্যমে সবচেয়ে বেশি।

The miracle of a prostration
“We haven’t rained for a long time here; if your Rabb rains, we will jointly believe”
Once, Kuwait’s famous liar and humanitarian, Shaikh Abdur Rahman As-Sumait (Rah. ) it is reported that there is a slum in a remote region of Africa, where the light of Islam has not yet reached. His heart of responsibility and compassion awakened, and he immediately decided to go there no matter what.
Companions got anxious and wanted to stop him.
They said:
“Sheikh! You can’t go. There is a river between us and that slum, full of dangerous crocodiles. ”
Sheikh said in full calmness:
“Take me there… The responsibility is mine. ”
So they got on the boat. The water of the river is upset, and the crocodiles are staring around with their heads high. Yet the boat went forward by the grace of Allah, and they safely crossed the river.
As soon as they reached the settlement, people were staring in awe. They asked:
“How did you get here?” ”
The companions said:
“Allah saved us, because we bring the message of His Deen. ”
Then Sheikh Sumait (Rah. ) explained the basic beliefs and teachings of Islam with great love, simplicity and tender gesture. The slum chief said at the end of his words:
“We have a condition… If it fulfils, we will all accept Islam. ”
Shaikh Mukki asked with a smile:
“What is the condition? ”
The slum chief said in a sad voice:
“We haven’t rained here for years. You pray to your Lord that rain comes down. ”
Shaikh immediately said:
“Okay… But first, gather the people of the whole slum. ”
When everyone gathered in one field, Sheikh performed Ozu, stood for prayer. A deep peace surrounded by the beauty of her Ruku-Sijda. He goes to the long prostration. That prostration had tears falling down his eyes, and his lips were pronounced repeatedly:
“Oh Allah… Never disrespect your religion because of the sins of Abdur Rahman. ”
He continued praying long with devotion and tears. Suddenly, there was thunder in the sky. As soon as I looked up from the prostration, it was seen—clouds full of sky were falling, and heavy raindrops were falling!
People of the settlement screamed in emotion after seeing this scene:
“We are testifying—there is no worship except Allah, and Muhammad Mustafa صلى الله عليه وسلم is the last Messenger of Allah! ”
Sheikh Sumait (RH). His eyes got wet. He thanked Allah. And this is how the whole slum converted to Islam with strong faith and spontaneity.
Who was Shaikh Abdur Rahman As-Sumait (Rah. )?
A medical doctor was in the profession (Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology Specialist).
Higher education from the University of Liverpool in Britain and McGill University in Canada.
But his life was dedicated to serving humanity and promoting the religion of Allah.
He travelled the African desert and slum-bungalow with his wife for 29 years.
Through him, an estimated 1 crore 10 million people have accepted Islam—the number is the highest by a single person in modern history.
